Advanced Trimix Diver

The Advanced Trimix diver course is arguably the pinnacle of open circuit technical diving. In this course, students learn to dive hypoxic trimix containing less than 18% oxygen to a maximum depth of 100 metres. Our recommendation is to use backmount as a configuration for these dives as it provides a more stable platform.

Apart from deep dives, students spend much of the in-water time on this course developing their competence in handling five tanks including travel and bottom gases as well as decompression mixes. Once skills are dialled in and handling equipment has become second nature, depth will be built gradually to a maximum of 100 metres.

During the Advanced Trimix diver course students explore the limits of open circuit diving in a two person team, leading to the use of a safety diver for the deeper dives. Dive planning focusses on balancing bottom time with decompression obligation and making gas choices to off-gas efficiently whilst taking the risk of isobaric counter diffusion into consideration.

  • Tuition
  • Tank hire and bottom gas as required for the dives EXCLUDING helium and deco gas
  • Transport to dive sites in Gozo
  • Video analysis of your dives
  • Use of the O’Dive Doppler sensor for decompression optimisation

If you have never dived with us before or it has been a while since your last planned deco dives, consider adding one or two warm-up days to complete shallower deco dives and / or work on your equipment configuration.

  • Right after the Advanced Trimix course, most divers choose to take a couple of days off to off-gas and relax.
  • After that, trimix dives to consolidate learning are a great idea – or perhaps a CCR trial
