Choosing Tech Diving Equipment
Twinsets aka doubles or Sidemount – choosing tech diving equipment for your underwater adventures is part of the fun.
As a general rule, there is no wrong decision here. You can always transfer the skills learned in one configuration to the other. In addition, you could also try out both, or even rebreathers, before you commit to a full technical diving course.
Equipment considerations are often connected to your choice of location. Your instructor will be able to advise you further. Sometimes it is also a case of starting in one configuration and later adding another.
Depending on where you train, you may able to start by using rental equipment. This gives you a chance to ‘try before you buy’ and have a better idea of what to buy. If you stay with technical diving, building up your own equipment will become a natural choice.
As your diving becomes more complex, equipment familiarity becomes more and more important. Very few tech divers travel light!
Choosing tech diving equipment may also include second hand gear. This comes with its own considerations, some of which are covered in our post below.
