Sidemount & Sidemount Plus

Sidemount diving introduces divers to a different way of mounting tanks, allowing for greater balance, stability and flexibility underwater. The TDI Sidemount Diver course is a great start to that.

All of this flexibility comes with a lot of equipment adjustment options. Getting your harness to the ‘sweet spot’ takes longer than a basic 2-3 day certification course. This is why we offer a  Sidemount Plus option.

TDI’s Sidemount programme certifies divers to dive to the level of their already existing qualification. If you are an Advanced Open Water diver or equivalent, you would be training to 30 metres without decompression, for example. If you are already a technical diver and wish to transfer your skills from backmount, we will customise a programme for you. Click here for more information on technical sidemount diving.

The basic TDI Sidemount Diver course includes a confined water session and three open water dives. There is also a thorough equipment setup workshop and a theory session, too. As a consequence – whether you bring your own equipment or use ours – you will gain a good understanding of the different forces at work within this configuration. Between dives, we use video to analyse skills and gear setup which leads to greater learning and more progress.

With our Sidemount Plus programme, we spend an additional 2 days / 4 dives finetuning your configuration and diving skills. This is not another certification course; instead it is adding to your sidemount qualification to help consolidate all the new information learned and go far beyond minimum course standards. What we cover in the dives will vary from diver to diver with the aim of giving you a greater understanding of the configuration itself and its potential.

The basic Sidemount course can also be the beginning of your technical diving career with the Advanced Nitrox & Deco Procedures course next.
